Blacksburg Community Strings and Chamber Orchestra presents “Folk Songs and Stories” on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Warm Hearth Village Center. This December, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown explodes onto the Live Arts stage with a Technicolor tangle of love and self-discovery. Pepa’s world tilts when her lover vanishes, and her search for her beloved spirals into ex-wives, taxi drivers, best friends, and one unforgettable batch of gazpacho. From composer-lyricist David Yazbek and book writer Jeffrey Lane, this rollicking musical is adapted from Pedro Almodóvar’s cult classic and brought to life by your talented community!Director Xavier Taylor (of Kinky Boots) calls it witty, hopeful, and charming, a story of independence and resilience with a vibrant Latin-infused score. Join staff on a short tour of the VMHC's rare book and manuscript vault to see some of the collection's most unique books, documents, and artifacts from across five centuries of Virginia history. In addition to viewing these treasures, guests will learn about the VMHC's library collection and the library's role in facilitating pioneering research into Virginia history.
This tour gives special access to an area of the museum off limits to daily admission and library visitors.

The Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Mark Taylor, will offer a concert of string orchestra music at 3pm on Saturday, December 6, in Meade Hall, Christ Episcopal Church in downtown Charlottesville. Suggested donation is $10.
The program includes string orchestra music by Peter Warlock, Arvo Part, Gustav Holst, and Antonin Dvorak. Charles Winkler will be the mandolin soloist for Vivaldi's Mandolin Concerto in C major.
The Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra is a community string orchestra of roughly two dozen musicians. For over 30 years, it has been providing musical opportunities for adult musicians of all ages in the Charlottesville area.
