October is Virginia wine month -- and in order to help more people safely enjoy the state’s wineries the Governor announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with UBER today.
Got plans to visit one of Virginia’s vineyards this weekend but don’t have a friend willing to be the designated driver? Governor Terry McAuliffe would like you to pick up your smart-phone, download the taxi-service app UBER, and request a driver.
“We’re trying to encourage folks to, obviously, visit all of our wineries -- but in addition we want you to drive… not drive! And have them drive you safely.”
To help encourage use of the app, anyone who shows their Uber receipt at participating vineyards will get 50% off tastings, and 15% off bottles.
Colin Tooze is with Uber. He says they’ll be giving drivers a heads up to help vineyard-goers catch a ride, even in remote areas.
“We’re always communicating with drivers to let them know where we expect demand to be high and as we encourage riders to take advantage of this great offer, we’re also be encouraging drivers to be there so that both sides have a great experience.”
The special services and discounts will be available each weekend throughout the month.
